Piet Mondrain Math-terpiece

For the month of October we are studying Piet Mondrain. We used our knowledge about measuring to create shapes at different lengths. Then we glued them on to our cube to create a Mondrain type sculpture. 6 students won the chance to take these piece of works home with them. You can make one at home with a Kleenex box and colored paper. Don't forget to measure out some shapes for some art/math fun!!!

We studied Jackson Pollock for the month of September. In that month we used his art to write narrative stories, explore force and motion and create math problems. We used his drops of paint to solve story problems using 2 one digit numbers and 3 one digit numbers. For example: Jackson painted 4 spots. He painted 2 spots. He then painted 1 spot. How many spots does he have? Have fun enjoying our interpretation of Jackson Pollock.

We are studying animals in Science this year. So every week we will be doing an art project to explore our knowledge about certain animals. Today we discussed birds and the artist Salvador Dali. Dali liked to paint in a dream like state so we made our birds "dreamy". However, all of them had to have the features we know that birds have. For example: beak, eyes, legs, webbed feet, feathers, wings. They also discussed the blending of red and yellow to make orange. I think they turned out great!! See if you can find your budding artist!!!
